Dawn.

I watched the sun rise as I continued walking away from town, away from the city, away from everything I had known. Despite being an assassin, I've always had to deal with things locally. My life had been closed to this area up until this point. It had just occurred to me then that I had never even considered the idea of there being a world beyond where I had already been.

My life had flashed before my eyes as it struck me how I was entirely abandoning my world as I knew it. I had some impulse to go back, but I knew that it wasn't really an option for me.

When members of the guild go against orders, the punishment is usually death, or torture and then death.

(As soon as it's reported that I'm missing, there's probably going to be a bounty on my head...)

The girl was still asleep, and much lighter than I had imagined. It almost seemed natural for me to be carrying her as I continued on my way off to...

Actually, I had no idea where I was going. Nor was I fully aware of what I was getting myself into. Nor would anyone have suspected that someone as evil as me, would fall in love and end up being a savior of this world.

My mind had been stuck earlier in the night. It happened so quickly. My cheek still burned from the cut.

While I was stunned by seeing her beauty, her survival instinct must have kicked in, because she threw her hand with a dark aura claw at me, and ended up grazing my face and making me drop my knife. Though the first one caught me off guard, she then threw a few failed swings at me in frustration, but she had clearly been running for a while now and ended up collapsing and falling into me. (Poor thing...) After that point I had no idea what overtook me, and I just picked her up. I wiped the tears off of her face with my cloak and just started walking away from town.

The sky was already turning orange from the sun coming up, and I was wondering what she would do, who she was, what she would think of me for coming at her with a knife and just carrying her off when she collapsed...

I felt sorry for scaring her...

By the time my mind had gotten back to reality, there was another town in view, below the bright orange sun sitting on the horizon, so I walked off with a mysterious girl in my arms, into the sunrise, into a brand new life, into a brand new day.

I could not have even guessed what I was getting myself into.

Weapon

The sound of laughter echoed in his head, he saw the fear in their eyes, they were all running, screaming, they knew their doom awaited them, they knew he brought it to them. Who wouldn't be afraid of such a monster... bodies lay at his feet, holes in their chests where their hearts once were, gaps in their necks where their esophagus was torn through, some missing the back of their heads, even a few that were still burning, all of their eyes white, empty, open, only showing the terror they had before their quick and painful deaths. What does it matter though? They were all weak, and it was his job to destroy them, why not have a little fun while he was at it? Some were close to escaping, when he lifted off the ground, his eyes and hands glowing a bright blue, then everything was covered in a destroying light, then nothing remained. nothing but him...

"NO! NO! NO!!!"

I woke up screaming, to find myself in a forest.

(What am I doing here? Why am I going on?)

I was sent for to find and "take care" of a girl.

After I had recomposed myself, I started to head back out on my tracking.
I was a mercenary, more so an assassin, but I was specifically requested for this mission, or so the guild said. They always give me the most demeaning jobs. (I don't see why anyone would want to get rid of an innocent anyways.)

I was to find a girl in the forest, it had been reported that she was near the lake,(no one goes that close to the monster nest...) hiding from everyone (why though?), so all I had to do was return with the body, collect my bounty and treat myself to a real meal, and possibly some drinks at the tavern. This one had a pretty big number on her head. (why would they offer to pay so much just for a girl?)

I could hear the river flowing into the beginning of the lake. I knew she must be nearby, so I phased into the shadows of the trees. (I wonder what she looks like...)

The sun was going down, the sky grew dark.

Perfect.

I am known for my expertise at hunting in the dark. None of my night victims have seen me before their death. Ever.

I was moving around the dark forest in the middle of the night, only one of the moons were visible that night, but it was only half lit, hunting for a girl.

(what am I doing? she's just a girl. what have i become, hunting innocents for my own gain?)

I stopped at this realization, because that's when it fully hit me. I'm only a tool.

Suddenly I heard leaves rustle, the light breathing of a higher pitched voice, a softness to the breath: the sound of a breathing female.

(did she spot me and was coming towards me?)

She walked right past me, not even knowing that I was there. I can't blame her though, it was too dark for me to even see her face, but I could tell she was afraid.

Noting that she didn't notice my being there, I called upon the arcane to hover myself closely behind her, so that I would not make any sound.

(why am I just following her? why didn't i kill her yet?)

I decided that I want to have fun with this one, that I want to see her face.

I followed her a bit, waiting for her to step into the moonlight, but she kept walking in the dark.

Suddenly, I found myself thinking about her, wondering who she was, why she was there, what happened to leave her wandering the darkness in fear.

While I was taken aback by these alien thoughts, I realized that I had stopped paying attention when suddenly:

Whump!
She shrieked as she hit the ground

She had tripped on a root sticking out of the ground, into the moonlight exposing her short petite frame, when I realized my blunder.

At the sound of her shriek, I had jumped out into the moonlight, exposing myself in front of her, even though her face was on the ground.

Shit!

I pulled out my knife quickly to assure the completion of my job, but for some reason, my arm froze before I could ready a thrust...

Time had nearly halted on me as she slowly looked up at me, with a look of growing terror in her glistening brown eyes. Her soft, smooth, pale skin glowed on her face as she was lifting up, letting her sleek, straight, long, dark hair fall out of the way. We both froze looking each other in the eyes, as i was terrified at the idea of carrying out what I was about to do.

My God, she's beautiful...

thus began the true awakening of Atticus the Mighty.
